Our major celebrations

In Hungary for the Catholic Christians’s highlight of Jesus birthday is the participation on the Christmas mass.
On 24th of December the families are fast, only they eat the feast dinner at night. The dinner originally is apple, walnut, honey and garlic, then buttery bean soup without meat, and finally milk-soaked roll with poppy seed, but nowadays the dinner is fish, and stuffed cabbage.
According to the folklore (countless folk customs are attached to the holiday) the Christmas table played an important role at the time of the holiday. The decoration of the festive board and the dining had severe order. They ascribed magical power to the courses that they served up. People are used to use the Christmas table-cloth as a pinafore in spring, and they had the first grains taken from it in order to get heavy crops at summer.
They placed grains on the table, and they gave it to the poultry, and under the table the put straw, to remember that Jesus was birth in a manger.
The Christmas tree symbolizes the Holy Trinity.

On John the Baptist’s holiday, Jesus Christ is baptized in the water of Jordan River, according to the Catholic Churches’ creed.
Epiphany, early named Saint Cross the Latin church called Epiphania Domini, the Lord’s appearance, the Hungarian name of the holiday which is kept on January 6. They celebrate it on all of the world. The closing day of the 12 holidays is Epiphany. The another english name is Twelfthday. 11 days the difference between the 354 sunny lunar years and the solar year. Later the hungarian folk predicted the New Year’s weather from this day’s weather.
Epiphania is a Greek word, means: manifestation. In the pagan Greek cults meaned the deity’s appearance, and his yearly celebration.
It’s time fell on the beginning of the year in the pagan age, the winter holiday circle welcomed the sunlight.

Easter is the ending of the Lent, which lasts for forty day, and which is a memory of Jesus’s desert fast. It is allowed to eat meat on this day first after the fast. The name of the last week of the fast: the week of Holy Week, which is after Easter. On single Hungarian countries it is called the “White Week”, and it lasts until the “White Sunday”. The Hebrew name of the Easter is “pesah”, which means dodge, avoidance, and it is refer to that the angel of death passed out the houses which were marked with the blood of a lamb.
The expression in the Hungarian name of the holiday cannot be found, but in Csíkménaság the name of the Easter procession: evasion.
It is the holiday of the soul’s immortality.
The time of the Easter is variable: we celebrate it on the first Sunday after a full moon following the vernal equinox. Many of our beautiful folk habits are attached to Easter. The watering happens on the second day of Easter. The making of the coloured egg and his donation are similar habits for the sprinklers.

The holiday of the triumph of the Holy Spirit and the church’s forming. God recreated the pupils with the help the Holy Spirit, who were started to going to making proof of Jesus’s teaching. The former shy pupils became brave confessors. Three thousand men became Christian with the occasion of the first Whitsun. This meant the Christian Church’s forming.
We may know the story of the development of the Christian Whitsun by the apostles’ actions in the Bible. Tongues landed onto the apostles on a fiftieth day following Jesus Christ’s death and his resurrection, and the Holy Spirit was got to them, as Jesus promised them earlier.
Everybody heard the apostle’s teaching on their own language, it was not matter where they were come from. It was a miracle, and we may find sings in the Jewish tradition for this.
The Early Church has many obtained faithful people from that point, despite the trials they were become Christians.
The time of Whitsun is not static, we celebrate it a different time in every year between May 10th and June 13th.
This issues from the Easter not falling on a constant time, but we count Whitsun from the Easter holiday though. The Christian Easter is after the first full moon following the vernal equinox always.
The triunity is typify of Easter. Jesus Christ was betrayed and crucified, he bought us the salvation with his death, and he resurrected on the third day after his death. On the end of the festive mass the altairplucking symbolizes Jesus Christ’s betrayal and his death. On Good Friday Jesus Christ laid in the grave. We pay homage before crucified Jesus Christ appearing at the time of the exposure of the cross, who bought us salvation. The Holy Saturday is the holiday of the resurrection in this holiday series. Jesus Christ overcame the death by his resurrection. This was at dawn actually. They prepared whole night vigil and a church service for the resurrection initially. Whitsun starts on Easter Sunday.
